-- I'm aware of the music issue - being too short - that's to do with a slower playback rate of the frames in a browser, and also the text issue - where some goes off screen - which is due to me using a Mac only font. --

Alrighty, this is my major motion design assignment for this semester.

The brief was we had to choose either a band, product or movie promo, or a short poem to animate. I went the stupid idea and chose a movie promo based around my own movie. And here is the end result.

The movie is based loosely in the future. It's a perfect world, a utopia, free of disease, hungry, poverty, crime. On the surface, anyway. A young boy discovers his mother was found dead, through an accident. Through some further investigation, however, he learns that she was murdered by the Government. Consequently he stumbles upon a brutal discriminating past of genocide and a bunch of revolutionists, and becomes an integral part of the uprising.

Most of that you can't tell from this. Because of time restraints I didn't get to put in the amount of detail I originally wanted (which was an absurd amount considering) but I'm relatively happy with the result.

:bulletred: Details:

Created entirely in Flash 8. Music created using GarageBand. Photo references taken by me, with the gracious support of Gemma and my brother, Aaron, with the exception of two stock images obtained from sxc.hu.

Huge thanks to Gemma for the overwhelming patience and feedback through my hours and hours of time-strained frustration. I love you!

Inspired by the visual stylings of Renaissance.

Also, try and spot which bits I did first. And the fantastic Nokia 6288 buildings :slow:

Enjoy guys. :slow:

I'd like to revisit it, redo some of the graphics and stuff. But I say that a lot, so I probably won't. :slow:

I knew that those were camera phones... that kinda confused me at first.... cellphones in a utopia?

I just wanted a kind of building that looked semi futuristic, but I also wanted to be lazy. My girlfriend has one of those, in white, so it was a readily available reference. :slow:

Lol, you're not supposed to want to be lazy... You're just supposed to be to lazy to stop being lazy.

That was classy. Despite the text problems, it was put together very well. It was smooth and stylish.

Odd. First time I just looked at it because I had no sound card, and now I came back to see it again with the music.. And it's different. I could read all of the text when in windows and IE, but now I know what you mean with the text going off-screen, after using linux and FF.

That's really weird. Like do you percieve the animation differently on a whole or certain aspects? :O

The illustrations in this are superbly detailed for a flash animation. The high contrast look is nice too.. all up I think you did a pretty good job.

Do you know yet what mark you got for it?

Nah, no idea. It's most likely I won't know until next semester when I ask him, cause he's lazy and doesn't send around emails with marks. :[

Y'know, just break the text apart to make it objects instead of text. Then we all get to see the snazzy mac font the way it's supposed to be seen.

Hey tom!

The music issue seems intentional because of the timing, but yeah, I'd get the fonts fixed, because otherwise this looks really quite professional, and I get distracted with the missing text, when I should be focusing on the images more :D

Cheers!

Rather like this piece tom...who knew you were artistic :slow:

Nice Vectoring of the people...and the buildings kinda remind me of an Xbox 360  But all in all, nice animation throughout.

Also...i believe the short cut-off of the music serves to add some dramatism to the animation, it cuts off right at the "scream" of the young boy. It works soo well that i thought it was planned like that and had to watch it a second time to realise that it was supposed to be longer :slow:.

:+fav: anyway

Surely you'd be happy with this?

Music works well with the simplistic animation and use of a stills. I noticed a bit of the text cut off towards then end and the "Utopia" seems to shake as it tweens bigger, try breaking apart the symbols then tween.

Love the flickering lines used throughout.

Good work Tom. :ahoy:

Yeah, the text issue I've found is because the font I chose (the one that's in the preview image) is a Mac only font, and the default one it's put on the PC is a little larger, forcing that r off the screen. It's a bit frustrating, as is the sound not going the distance because the movie is a little slower than when it ran on here.

Overall I'm fairly happy, but there's still things I felt I could've done better. :slow:

Cheers Zac!
